“Magic is shifting again,” Over Lord Sydney says. “It's happening all around the world, yet I can’t pinpoint exactly where it's coming from.”
“I’ve got some terrible—,” Rebecca starts, then freezes mid-sentence. Her eyes snap to me, glowing brighter than before. “What the hell is she doing here?” It’s not said in anger, but in alarm.
I rear back like I’ve been slapped. “What do you mean? I live here, Rebecca, you know that.”
Everyone turns to look at Rebecca as if she’s lost her mind, but there’s something about the look in her eyes that gives everyone pause. An unsettling mix of worry and concern paints their faces. Dani's eyes, usually so steady and unwavering, flicker with an uncharacteristic uncertainty. Lucy's lips are pressed into a thin, tight line, her gaze on Rebecca intense and searching. Even the Over Lords, usually so unshakeable, can't mask the worry etching faint lines onto their foreheads.
I find myself mirroring their concern as a chilling sense of apprehension gnaws at the edges of my mind. As I watch Rebecca, the gravity of our situation begins to sink in, and the whispers of prophecies and magic disturbances are suddenly more real than ever.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Over Lord Miranda asks.
“Send her away,” Rebecca yells. “Now!”
Dani points a finger at Rebecca. “You'd better calm down. We just got Vik back. We’re not sending her anywhere. What the hell is going on?”
“You guys never listen to me,” Rebecca says as she starts to glow brighter. “Fine. I’ll send her away myself and hope to never see her face again.”
