Teaser Exerpt
"The air was heavy with sand and heat, stinging my skin as we trudged through the desert. My patience was running thin, but I pressed on, the mission always coming first.
‘Look, Lucy!’ Dani’s voice cut through the wind, her tone laced with urgency. I turned just in time to catch a shadow—no, a man—materializing from the swirling sand. He was there one second, gone the next, leaving only the sound of mocking laughter behind.
‘This guy’s got a sense of humor,’ I muttered, clenching my fists as the ground trembled beneath us.
A gust of wind tore past, carrying with it a burst of sand that blinded me momentarily. When I opened my eyes, he was there again, smirking as he stared us down. My instincts kicked in. I didn’t think—I just acted. With a flick of my wrist, I sent him flying backward, watching as he dissolved into sand once more.
‘Enough games!’ I yelled into the empty desert. ‘Face me like a warrior or stay hidden like a coward.’
The sand solidified behind me. Too late, I turned, only to be hit with a strike so fast, so precise, it knocked the wind out of me. But I wasn’t about to let him win. Not now. Not ever."
